Color and style sources are all around us so start a file of stuff you like. Designers call these "morgues" and consider them indispensable.
To develop a color palette, look at fabrics, wallpaper, gift wrap and art works to see what colors look good together.

Remember to consider the colors of your active and visited links. Don't leave them at default settings! The colors of your text should be part of the same palette of colors as the rest of your website.
